Making Medusa
Part 1
It all starts with newspaper, tape, and a crazy idea to make a life-sized Medusa
Make a big newspaper ball for the head and some smaller ones for the mouth and other things |
Loosely tape up the newspaper balls |
Paper mache the newspaper balls |
Make some teeth and claws out of Sculpey Clay |
Bake them on a cookie sheet |
Cut open one of the small newspaper balls and glue on some teeth |
Cloth mache around each tooth. This adds structural support and makes the gums. |
Carve up the head until it starts looking like a skull. Make some holes for the eyes and mock up the nose. |
Put in the mouth and tape it in place |
Make some fingers - cut some wire hangers, wrap them in newspaper, and tape them up. |
Make some snakes - twist up some wire hangers, wrap them in newspaper, and tape them up. |
Paper mache the snakes |
Cloth mache the snakes and hands |
Cloth mache the rest of the face, add some paint, twist up a bar of electrical conduit into a snakelike shape, and mock up different poses until you find one that looks freaky. |
Use plastic conduit to make the arms for the freaky pose |
Cut open each snake's mouth and reshape the heads so they look cool |
